For nearly 20 years, I have just LOVED supporting women and their partners through pregnancy, into a positive birth, and gentle, happier parenting. My client Katie who gave birth at St Thomas's, has just called me a "superstar birth doula" - how lovely!!
I have two sons, Dan, who was lying back to back and was born by forceps, and Jack lying breech and born normally (yey!!) - everybody laughed when Jack appeared bottom first with his feet by his ears !!
Following my two very different experiences of birth and early days of parenting, I felt drawn to working with mothers post natally: to support them through a potentially wonderful, but often challenging time. And after working with NCT as a PostNatal Exercise and Discussion leader, and training to become a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I was one of Marie Mongan's earliest Hypnobirthing trainees in 2003/4 and then became a BabyCalm teacher/trainer with Sarah Ockwell-Smith, to support mothers and babies post natally with evidence based, gentle parenting. (Mothers need to feel safe for birth to flow well and babies need to feel safe to develop well).
We've learned, or maybe re-learned what birth needs - what birth always needed - to flow well ... for a woman to feel safe, protected and unhurried.....
And I also learned early on, that a maternity unit guidelines are just that: guidelines - and not rules - (virtually) everything is negotiable... (I stay up to date with latest research/evidence/guidelines)
So, I'm here to support you, advocate for you, and be with you (and your partner) through pregnancy, birth and beyond - listening to you and following your lead - enabling birth to flow wherever and however you birth your baby ... a calm, reassuring presence, protecting you and your partner and baby.
- If you plan a home birth, I'll be delighted to support you...
- In a pool in a birth centre ..
- If you have a medical condition or special circumstances which may require more monitoring, I'll help you navigate your way to a birth that is right for you
- If you want support for a gentle c section or the best possible induction, a VBAC in pool, or a normal TWINs birth,
- I can help you find the team to support you
- Normal breech birth in a birth centre: did you know that St George's specialise ... and St Thomas's have a 'Breech Squad' ?!
I also have a wonderful support network to share with parents.

Hypnobirthing group or private sessions are offered as an addition to doula support.
Katie : "Thank you SO much. It was wonderful for me that you met Jess (midwife) and also to spend some more time together. I actually feel really excited about giving birth now and a huge part was down to our chat! So thank you" ... Postnatally: D and I are very much still pinching ourselves. We loved having you with us. I will be forever grateful... tbc
Sophie : planning a normal birth, but due to medical condition, having a 'gentle' CSection at C&W:
"Dear Rosie - Thank you so much, you really do make a massive difference to the whole experience. We had such a laugh again all the way through, and felt so relaxed.
